Tuesday 17th March

Baby fern at Dolomite Point.

The Pancake Rocks - cool!

The view from from the end of Truman's Track (just before Punakaiki).

The classic kiwi "mob of sheep on the road" photo - we just had to!

Andrew at the wheel of the camper.

Us caving at Charleston - way cool!

Awesome formations.

On the swing bridge on the way to the cave.

Today we travelled from Springs Junction west to Westport and then south to the little town of Charleston and went caving(with Underground Adventures) - it was awesome fun! We started off getting a cute little train along the river, then crossed a swing bridge and up 119 steps to the mouth of the cave. We walked through 2 levels of the cave - the first level having lots of cool formations, before coming to the third level where we jumped into our tubes and floated through an underground lake and saw the most amazing display of glow worms (apparently the world's largest display) before exiting the cave and tubing back down the river to the bridge - all in all a very cool experience, and one which we highly recommend.

We then continued on to Punakaiki, stopping for a little wander down Truman's Track which led to a cute little bay with huge caverns which the sea had carved out from the cliffs. We then headed straight to Dolomite Point to see the Pancake Rocks. Unforutnately we missed high tide and so didn't get to see the blowholes in action, but they were pretty cool all the same.
